(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK managed hosting provider Attenda (www.attenda.net) announced that it has launched a CarbonNeutral (www.carbonneutral.com) hosting program, which lets customers offset the carbon emissions of their infrastructure within the Attenda data center.
In January, Attenda was accredited with CarbonNeutral certification by the carbon offset and carbon management business The CarbonNeutral Company, which recognizes that the company has attained a net zero CO2 emissions rating.
The company has already signed a handful of new customers to the program, including Ark Workplace Risk, easyCar.com, Datamonitor, Fulham Football Club, iWantGreatCare.org, TM Group and White Stuff.
Working with The CarbonNeutral Company, the Attenda CarbonNeutral hosting program provides a solution for customers to measure and reduce the carbon dioxide emissions produced by their infrastructure, hosted within the Attenda data center environment, to net zero.
According to the press release, Attenda is the first UK managed services provider to have achieved CarbonNeutral office status and to provide a CarbonNeutral hosting solution to its customers.
While many in the industry have criticized the purchasing of carbon offsets as nothing more than a way for companies to use money to clean up their image, without having to reduce their own carbon emissions.
Still, other argue that a carbon offset program shows that a company is at least conscious of its ecological footprint, and as a result, making some kind of ecological effort.
“We are expecting to see a large take up by our client base in the next 18 months, as they continue to evolve their own carbon neutral strategies” says Mark Fowle, CEO of Attenda “The Attenda CarbonNeutral hosting accreditation reflects our leadership position, and strongly complements our other industry accreditations which will become increasingly important in the future.”
