AT&T Wins Aeropostale Services Contract

December 17, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Telecommunications carrier AT&T (ATT.com) announced on Tuesday that it has won a multi-year services contract from clothing retailer Aeropostale Inc. (Aeropostale.com) to provide Web hosting services, as well as VPN and frame relay services and local, long distance and international voice services.

According to AT&T, the initial agreement is for three years, and is valued at approximately $3.5 million.

AT&T says its network-based services and applications support will allow Aeropostale to connect more than 360 US retail stores, linking inventory, warehousing, credit card and gift card data. The company and its employees will have access to real-time information on inventory availability.

AT&T has also taken over the managed hosting of Aeropostale’s Web site, reducing the time taken by credit card transactions on the site from an average of 30-40 seconds to 2-3 seconds per transaction. Aeropostale will also see reduced credit card company fees for instantaneous online transactions, says AT&T.

As part of the Web hosting service, AT&T manages the company’s online retail catalogue, as well as the Flash site allowing customers to create a virtual online character, chat and create an “Aero Room” when they register for the site. Customers can use points awarded with purchases to decorate their personalized room.
