June 26, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Telecommunications firm AT&T (ATT.com) announced on Wednesday that it is opening its newest Internet data center in the Boston area, with the intention of serving multinational and enterprise businesses.
The announcement, says AT&T, brings the company?s total number of IDCs to 18, spread across three continents, and reinforces the company?s strategic focus on hosting and managed services.
The new 200,000-square-foot Boston area IDC is AT&T?s third-largest IDC worldwide and, according to the company, is integral to the support of the portfolio of managed services that AT&T announced in January.
“With today’s announcement, AT&T is reaffirming its commitment to the enterprise businesses and companies that we serve,” says Dave Dorman, AT&T President and head of Business Services. “In an industry environment characterized by churn and turmoil, our continued investment in hosting represents our own vote of confidence on where the business applications of the future are heading.”
