AT&T Buys Washington State Data Center

November 19, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — AT&T (att.com) has purchased the large Internet data center it operates in north Lynnwood, Washington through a refinancing deal worth $77 million, according to a report published on Heraldnet.com.

According to AT&T, it received financing from Texas-based Atlantic Financial Group to cover both the value of the property and buildings in addition to improvements and equipment it added to the facility. “This was part of our overall corporate debt reduction strategy,” Diamond told the Herald.net. “We essentially refinanced it and bought it from Atlantic Financial.”

AT&T spokesman Gordon Diamond said the facility is one of 21 major AT&T data centers around the world.

According to county property records, the data center property of eight acres includes two buildings consisting of nearly 140,000 square feet. AT&T has installed raised floors, backup power supplies and numerous large computer servers.
