Apptix Offers Online Backup with Mozy

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Hosted Exchange, VoIP and SharePoint hosting provider Apptix (www.apptix.com) has expanded its suite of services to include online backup and data recovery service Mozy, through a reseller partnership with Decho Corporation (www.decho.com), an EMC-owned company.

According to the company’s Tuesday announcement, Apptix Online Backup by Mozy will be offered to its 200,000 hosted Exchange customers, as well as the small and medium-sized business market-at-large through Apptix’s growing sales channel. According to Mozy, its online backup is simple, scalable and secure, and helps protect individuals and businesses from hard drive failures, computer loss or theft, and natural disasters. Apptix expects its adoption of Mozy to expand its presence in the SMB market.

“This partnership with Decho enables Apptix to add a high-quality, best-of-breed online backup solution to our rapidly-expanding portfolio of hosted solutions for SMBs,” Apptix product division vice president Rick Rumbarger said in a statement. “Mozy is affordable, easy to deploy, automated, and addresses the serious issue of data loss, which — if left unaddressed — could negatively impact a small business so significantly it would be unable to sustain its business.”

According to Apptix, its online backup service automatically runs online backups in the background while applications are running, and it even backs up files that are open and in use. Mozy is compatible with both Mac and PC operating systems and also features an intuitive user interface.

“We’re excited about the reseller partnership with Apptix because they are an organization that understands the nuances of serving the SMB market,” MozyPro marketing director Daniel Royer said in as statement. “Apptix’s superior customer service record in this market will help ensure that the benefits of Mozy reach thousands of new businesses across an array of industries.

Mozy’s reseller program gives participants access to a web-based control panel that allows resellers to setup clients and users, deploy the backup software and manage the service from any location. Also, through its own channels, Mozy has a “MozyPro” online backup option for businesses, offering desktop licenses for $3.95 per month and server licenses for $6.95 plus 50 cents per Gigabyte of storage per month.

In November, EMC combined two of its companies, Mozy and Pi Corp, to establish Decho, a new company “focused on helping people protect, manage and enrich the ever-growing quantity of personal digital information in their lives.” Pi Corp (www.picorp.com) is involved in finding ways to track individual web users’ personal information so that they have more control over their online reputation and how their information is used. Following this restructuring, Decho will be introducing new cloud-based services focused on the individual.
