Applied Innovations, Microsoft to Showcase Web Hosting

UPDATED: Edited to include specific details on the nature of Applied Innovations’ cloud computing offering.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider and Microsoft partner Applied Innovations (www.appliedi.net) announced last week that it plans to host what it calls the “Elite Web Optimization Event,” December 8 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in collaborate with Microsoft (www.microsoft.com).

Applied Innovations says it will use the event to demonstrate its new “cloud computing platform,” and show customers how they might best use the company’s services.

The hosting company is a Gold partner of the software giant, and specializes in many elements of the Microsoft development environment, along with being a participant in its recently launched Website Spark program.

According to the press release, the Elite Web Optimization event will include demonstrations related to updated Microsoft tools such as Visual Studio, Expression and Silverlight, and using those tools to develop and launch PHP applications on the Windows platform – PHP compatibility being another feature of recent upgrades to the Windows Server platform.

“It is very exciting to be hosting this event with Microsoft,” says Jess Coburn, CEO of Applied Innovations, quoted in the press release. “The web is evolving at an accelerated pace and many businesses are struggling to keep up. At our event attendees will receive a tremendous amount of education on how your business can leverage all the new features of the Microsoft Web Platform and tools on the suite of services that Applied Innovations offer. If you are a current web developer who utilizes PHP or ASP.net in your applications then, The Elite Web Optimization Event is a must-attend.”

While the press release says the company will use the event to “demonstrate [its] new cloud computing platform,” it doesn’t offer any further details on the nature of the new platform, nor is there any mention of “cloud computing” on the company’s website.

In an email sent to the WHIR, Coburn explained the solution a bit further.

“What’s the Applied Innovations cloud platform that we’ll be showing at this event?” he wrote, ”It’s the system we built out on top of the Dynamic Datacenter Toolkit back in February that was mentioned at the Microsoft Hosting Summit and have been extending and adding functionality to. The current system is simply highly available (clustered) VPS servers that offer elastic computing and high availability (100% uptime). As we continue to develop and this solution and our offering continues to evolve we’ll be adding the other aspects of cloud computing to it this could include such features as: utility billing, geographic DR and geographic load balancing.”

Coburn explains the cloud computing concept as put forth by Applied Innovations in a blog post at his personal website here.

Registration for the free event is available online. It will take place December 8 at the Marriott Fort Lauderdale, between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. More details about the event are available from the registration website.
