Apache Web Server Gaining, Says Netcraft

August 4, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Apache maintained its leading share of the Web server market this month, gaining 0.33 percent, according to Netcraft’s (netcraft.com) August Web server survey. The growth represented a total gain of over 1 million hostnames, the sixth time in the past year that the survey has shown a monthly increase of over 1 million.

Microsoft lost ground again, dropping from 21.32 to 21.21 percent market share. SunOne and Zeus also lost, dropping 0.04 and 0.05 percent respectively.

According to Netcraft, Microsoft’s share of the Web server market has been relatively steady despite the security flaw in IIS 5.0 discovered in June.
