(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) –Web analytics firm Netcraft released the results of its January 2012 web server survey, and for the third month in a row, Apache has gained the most hostnames.
Netcraft’s January survey saw responses from 582,716,657 sites, an increase of 4.9 percent or 27.7 million sites from December’s survey.
Despite the increase in hostnames, Apache’s market share fell by 0.3 percent. Microsoft also recorded a further drop in market share, according to the report, despite gaining 1.8 million sites this month.
nginx was the only major web server vendor to gain market share in January, and set a new all-time high of 9.63 percent. It saw the second largest absolute growth with the addition of 6.9 million hostnames.
nginx gained 1.9 million active sites, while Apache added 3.7 million active sites, more than double its increase recorded last month.
Google also saw a slight increase in market share at 2.4 percent, anincrease of 0.09 percent from December. Google also saw a small decrease in active sites.
