June 7, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — According to research and analysis firm Netcraft’s (netcraft.com) June Web Server Survey, Apache once again came out on top, holding 67.22 percent of the Web server market, up from last month’s 67.05 percent. The gains represented an increase in aggregate totals from 33,892,817 to 34,710,235.
Microsoft lost ground over the last month, according to Netcraft’s data. It fell from 21.48 percent market share to 21.35 percent. The Sun and Zeus platforms also lost some ground over last month. Sun lost 0.04 percent market share while Zeus lost 0.01 percent.
Netcraft’s monthly Web server survey measures Web server software usage on all Internet connected computers. The June 2004 survey received responses from 51,635,284 sites – the second consecutive month the total sample size has topped 50 million. According to Netcraft’s data, the Internet has grown 26.1 percent over the past 12 months, adding 10.7 million hostnames since the June 2003 survey.
