(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web analytics firm Netcraft (www.netcraft.com) announced on Monday that the results from its November web server survey found that Apache gained the most sites this month, for a total gain of 15.9 million sites.

Netcraft says it received responses from 525,998,433 sites, an increase of 4.3 percent since last month.

According to the report, all of the major web server vendors gained sites this month, and Microsoft showed the second largest gain of 2.3 million sites, though its market share fell by 0.21 percent.

nginx suffered a small loss in market share as well after it reached its all-time high of 8.54 percent last month. Last month, nginx received $3 million in Series A funding.

Netcraft says that in terms of active sites, Microsoft showed a loss, while nginx made the largest gain, rising by 0.86 million active sites, bring it to within 0.66 percentage points of Microsoft’s market share. The total number of active sites in the web server survey has reached 172 million, according to Netcraft.

Last week, Netcraft named Rackspace the most reliable web hosting company site in October.
