October 15, 2001 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — America Online (aol.com), announced the launch of its
r
High-Speed Broadband service over the Time Warner Cable system in Cincinnati
r
and Greensboro.
r
r
AOL High-Speed Broadband combines the advantages of a broadband connection
r
with the ease-of-use and community atmosphere that have made AOL the world’s
r
most popular online service. With this broadband service, AOL members can
r
access multimedia content, instant messaging and interactive gaming
r
seamlessly integrated into the AOL client software.
r
r
Barry Schuler, chairman and CEO of America Online, said “the Internet is
r
entering a new era as a significant number of consumers begin to adopt
r
broadband connections. Consumers in Cincinnati can take advantage of even
r
greater online convenience than they’ve known before, paving the way for
r
them to make the medium even more central to their lives with services like
r
home networking, online music, interactive gaming, and more. We are
r
confident that AOL can lead the way in the broadband era based on the
r
unparalleled understanding of what mass-market consumers want that has
r
helped us grow to more than 31 million members around the world.”
r
r
AOL’s High-Speed services offers consumers a wide range of high-speed
r
content through partnerships with media and entertainment leaders. Among the
r
offerings available are news reports and live coverage from CBS News, CNN,
r
and the Weather Channel; Sports highlights and more from the NFL, NBA, and
r
NASCAR, as well as CNNSI, HBO Sports, CBS Sportsline, and Turner Sports;
r
Music videos and more from Get Music and Rolling Stone.com, as well as the
r
Radio@AOL service that will be featured in AOL 7.0; Movie previews, animated
r
content, short video clips, and entertainment news from HBO, Moviefone,
r
Warner Brothers Online, E!, Cartoon Network and others; Business and
r
technology news from CBS Marketwatch and CNET; Interactive features and
r
animated cartoons for Kids from Cartoon Network, Kiddonet and Warner
r
Brothers Online; and Travel destination guides and previews from
r
Travelocity.
r
r
With the launch later this month of AOL 7.0, high-speed content will be even
r
more seamlessly integrated into the world’s most popular online service. A
r
dedicated “High-Speed AOL” area will appear as part of the AOL Welcome
r
Screen and across channels and sites – automatically presenting relevant
r
broadband content as members explore the service, so that they can access
r
audio and video content with a point and click.
r
r
Subscribers to the AOL High-Speed Broadband services will pay $44.95 for
r
unlimited use of their broadband account and $2.95 per hour for dial-up use.
r
Members who want to get unlimited broadband connectivity, and unlimited
r
access to AOL’s worldwide network of dial-up connections from any location,
r
can choose to pay the single price of $54.95 per month. There are no
r
activation or cancellation fees.
r
r
Glenn Britt, chairman and CEO of Time Warner Cable, said “by offering AOL
r
High-Speed Broadband and other ISPs over Time Warner Cable systems, we are
r
taking a major step in fulfilling our commitment to enhance choice,
r
convenience and value for consumers. The ability to offer AOL and other
r
choices to our customers – a first among the country’s cable systems – is
r
just the latest demonstration of Time Warner Cable’s technological
r
leadership.”
