(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Insurance firm Allstate (www.allstate.com) announced on Friday it has opened the first data center in Rochelle, Illinois’ new business and technology park, according to the report by BusinessRockford.com.
The $50 million data center project is the first of two in the 160 acre park, which is located near Interstate 39 and Illinois 38.
Financial services firm Northern Trust (www.northerntrust.com) is also constructing a data center at the park.
The facilities store backups of critical business information, and connects to other facilities using the interstate’s broadband data liness.
Allstate’s new data center features an energy efficient design which meets the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design’s gold certification standards.
In April, financial services company Citi’s new 230,000-square-foot Frankfurt data center earned the LEED rating.
The local government hopes the big names of Allstate and Northern Trust will attract other companies seeking to open their data centers or other technological businesses at the park, which currently has room for several new users.
One developer is looking to construct a 100,000- to 200,000-square-foot facility that can be divided into smaller data center units for companies to lease.
