Akamai to Deliver Microsoft Webcast

April 24, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Akamai Technologies Inc. (akamai.com) announced Tuesday that it has been selected by Microsoft (microsoft.com) to provide the global streaming delivery network in support of the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 launch event taking place on April 24, 2003.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and group vice president Jim Allchin will introduce Microsoft’s newest server technology at the joint launch of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003.

“Akamai’s use of Windows Media Services 9 Series will help ensure that viewers have the best possible viewing experience for this groundbreaking event,” said Jonathan Usher, director of the Windows Digital Media Division at Microsoft Corp.

“Microsoft is a leader in shaping digital media technologies, and is again bringing to market innovation that helps propel the use of streaming applications,” said Bill Weihl, chief technology officer, Akamai. “Akamai’s global footprint, with support for Windows Media Services 9 Series, is unique in the industry. We are excited to provide the delivery infrastructure for this keynote, which will undoubtedly be one of the largest, live Windows Media Services 9 Series events to date.”
