Akamai Key Hirings, Moves Center

April 5 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Distributed computing service provider Akamai Technologies (akamai.com) announced on Wednesday that it has made two key leadership appointments to its Reston, Virginia-based public sector organization.

Akamai also announced it has more than doubled the size of its public sector operations center, moving to a new location in Reston. The new public sector offices will feature a network operations command center to monitor Internet traffic patterns, congestion points, and potential malicious activity in support of its government customers.

Leading the appointments is Fran Trentley, who has been named director of operations and delivery of Akamai public sector. The retired Army Lieutenant Colonel most recently served at the White House Communications Agency as chief information officer. Trentley will be responsible for overseeing Akamai’s managed services offerings within the government.

Betsy Appleby, who joined Akamai at the beginning of 2005, has been promoted to the role of VP of Akamai public sector. In her new role, Appleby will run Akamai’s public sector sales organization and oversee all public sector operations. She has more than 15 years of public service experience and leadership at the Department of Defense in IT acquisition and program management.
