(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web host and domain registrar AIT (www.ait.com) has launched a no-cost, ad-free web hosting account, offering businesses and individuals a free website for life at their own domain name to enhance the visibility of its core products and services, as well as its search engine, tyBit (www.tyBit.com).
According to AIT’s Tuesday announcement, the limited time promotion offers one free hosting account per customer, giving them 10 GB of web space, 1,000 email accounts, and 500 GB of data transfer, as well as additional features to help their web presence such as access to a free site builder and a web statistics analyzer. The company said it anticipates hundreds of new sign-ups per week.
“It’s pretty straightforward,” AIT sales and marketing vice president Avery Skelton said in a statement. “Anyone looking for a web hosting account to host their own domain can call us and get setup in minutes. Our goal is to introduce both AIT and tyBit to a wider audience by giving away free web hosting accounts.”
AIT sales and marketing senior vice president Sean McCoy said that customers will be impressed enough by their free hosting to purchase additional services. “A lot of criticism simply misses that the “free” business model isn’t just about giving stuff away and hoping for a miracle; it’s about leveraging the free stuff to sell complementary goods in a way that benefits both buyer and seller.” McCoy said in a statement.
AIT chief executive officer Clarence Briggs said that because competitive market forces bring down the price of hosting to nearly nothing, web hosts will have to compete not on price, but on value-added services.
“Competition is going to push prices down to zero margin and keep them there,” Briggs said in a statement. “That is why constant innovation and change are essential such as complex or reseller web hosting.”
