Afilias Launches Managed DNS Service

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Domain registry operator Afilias (www.afilias.info) announced on Tuesday that it has introduced a commercially available managed DNS service for business.

The organization is entering a crowded market, but is doing so with a product built on a global DNS network that supports 15 registries, including the very popular .info, .org and .me, among others.

Among the very successful recently-released domains, the .me registry recently passed the 200k registration mark.

According to the press release, Afilias supports more than 14 million domains across those 15 TLDs, a business that stretches back over eight years.

“For most corporations, DNS is critical, but it is not their core competency. Afilias’ Managed DNS service allows organizations to have the peace of mind of relying on an expert to ensure that their Web site never goes down,” says Afilias VP of corporate services, John Kane, quoted in the press release.

The company says the key features of its Managed DNS service include a customer portal for managing data, which provides advanced reporting and security alerts. The service also has a 100% uptime guarantee.

An information package about the service is available for download in PDF format from the company’s website.

Afilias says its DNS network provides more security and resiliency than other service providers are able. The network is designed with multiple bandwidth providers and is dispersed across numerous geographic locations.

The press release describes the service as being particularly well suited to customers “frustrated by the complicated pricing plans of other providers.”

Neither the announcement nor the company’s website appears to offer any specifics on the pricing for the service, however this page includes a link to a form for requesting pricing information.
