(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Domain registry operator and Internet infrastructure services firm Afilias (www.afilias.info) released the list of judges for its fourth annual .INFO Awards program on Tuesday, a list that includes WHIR editor in chief Liam Eagle.
Afilias, the operator of the .info registry, says the .INFO Awards program is designed to identify the “best .info website of 2010,” and will award the winner a cash prize of up to $7,500. No doubt, the objective is partly to raise the profile of .info, which has seen some success as one of the more popular generic top-level domains outside of the .com, .net and .org space.
Last week, the company opened submissions for the awards, letting website operators submit their .info sites – or web users to submit their favorite .info site – to the competition. Complete rules for the contest, along with the submission form and voting registration are available at www.info-award.info.
Along with WHIR editor Liam Eagle, the judging panel is a list of media and technology representatives from around the world, including Dominik Grollman, editor in chief of Internet World Business, Grant Allaway, group managing director at AD2ONE, Peter Prestipino, editor in chief of Website magazine, Anand Parthasarathy, editor at IndiaTechOnline.com, Katy Tafoya, creator and editor at ConstantChatter.com and Philipp Grabensee, chairman of the board at Afilias.
Afilias says the panel will review the submitted sites according to a set of criteria that includes presentation, functionality, design, usability and originality.
“Afilias is pleased to have such high caliber judges from the fields of online information, media, and technology,” says Roland LaPlante, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Afilias. “This year’s panel consists of judges from many different countries and three continents, truly representing the global nature and appeal of the .INFO domain.”
