December 9, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Affinity Internet (affinity.com) is offering tips for small businesses selling via the Internet this holiday season.
According to Affinity, many small businesses selling on the Internet offer outstanding products, but can’t compete with the staff or budget of big e-commerce players. Peter Chambers, CEO of Affinity, says small online retailers can compete this holiday season by maximizing the effectiveness of their online presences.
“Make sure your web site has a friendly navigation structure for visitors,” says Chambers. “Giving people quick access to directories and letting them drill into detail is the best approach. When selling products on a site, don’t sell advertising and don’t use links on your site that open other Web pages. If you want to reference other Web sites, make sure your links open another browser or a pop-up window. This allows customers to easily return to where they left off.”
Chambers also recommends that retailers optimize the performance of their site to minimize waiting time for potential customers.
