ADC Data Center Saves On Emissions

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator Advanced Data Centers (www.adatacenters.com) announced on Thursday that the energy saving design of its McClellan Park data center in Sacramento has allowed the company to save 36 percent on carbon emissions compared to the average data center.

Located on a former United States Air Force base, the ADC McClellan Park data center is in a seismically inactive area close to San Francisco and Silicon Valley.

ADC is able to provide customers tax incentives available through LAMBRA because it is located on a former military base.

The data center is built using recycled, non-toxic, locally-sourced/manufactured materials and over 95 percent recycled demolition debris.

By saving electricity, ADC is also saving valuable water resources.

When compared to the average data center, ADC says it will save 220.5 million gallons of water — enough to fill 18,375 swimming pools — a year, to meet its electrical energy demands.

Additionally, the data center will capture over 150,000 gallons of rainwater annually and will filter and use recycled “gray” water from an offsite well to meet requirements of the facility’s cooling towers, restrooms and landscaping.

ADC also recycles water discharged by the cooling towers, which it then filters and reuses.

Earlier this year, ACD received the largest-ever reward from the state of Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s Savings by Design program, which provides eligible companies with many benefits for constructing the most energy efficient buildings possible.

The organization confirmed that the facility was capable of saving more than $2 million dollars annually in utility costs.

Last August, the company’s McClellan Park facility became the first and only LEED Platinum pre-certified data center by the US Green Building Council in recognition of its energy efficient design.

ADC owns and operates wholesale data centers designed specifically for corporations.
