Six months after closing a $55 million funding round, Acquia has launched a new online learning curriculum, called Acquia Academy, aimed at preparing developers and marketers for the newest version of Drupal, Drupal 8.

According to Acquia, the Academy courses are free of charge for anyone, and new Drupal 8 courses are among the resources available immediately. Courses on Drupal 7 and Acquia Platform products, including Acquia Cloud, Acquia Lift and Acquia Cloud Site Factory, are also available.

Acquia launched a beta version of Drupal 8 to its platform in July, offering several improvements including a new content authoring experience for users, a responsive UI and improvements for developers. But there is still a lag in the adoption of Drupal 8, Acquia said in a recent blog post. The company is doing its part by launching its free Academy courses, and the Drupal 8 Module Acceleration Program, a new initiative where Acquia funds the “porting of 50 important Drupal modules from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8″, a crucial aspect of supporting Drupal 8 adoption.

“Making Drupal 8 learning available to everyone is part of Acquia’s commitment to accelerate Drupal 8 adoption across the landscape. These courses will help managers and admins shorten their learning curve and get productive fast with Drupal 8,” Acquia’s COO Preston Bradford said in a statement. “Tailor-made for professionals to access on their own schedule, the courses offer proven insights and industry best practices from Acquia’s professional services and product teams as well as partner agencies.”

Some of the other courses include Site Building Basics, Module Configuration and Content Display and Organization. The Academy will add more advanced courses to its catalog throughout the year, with best practices courses on Drupal security and performance are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

There is clearly an appetite for Drupal 8 training, particularly training that is free of charge, as a Kickstarter project last spring aimed at developing 50 introductory Drupal 8 training videos for free distribution on YouTube exceeded its funding goal.

Acquia will be in Mumbai, India, for DrupalCon Asia starting on Thursday as it is a sponsor of the event.
