Abridean Releases New Version of Provisor for BlackBerry Enterprise Server

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Hosted application and provisioning solutions developer Abridean (www.abridean.com) has released the latest version of Provisor for BlackBerry Enterprise Server, which now supports version 5.0.1 Maintenance Release 1.

According to Abridean’s announcement this week, Provisor is a unified delegated management solution for messaging and collaboration applications including Exchange and BlackBerry Enterprise Server. It is deployed in service provider and enterprise installations ranging from hundreds of users to hundreds of thousands of users.

“The release of Service Pack 1 and Maintenance Release 1 by Research in Motion provides a wide range of new features being requested by both our enterprise and service provider customers,” Abridean service provisioning solutions vice president Peter Bidgood said in a statement. “Abridean user account provisioning software is used by some of the world’s largest organizations to manage resource domains, so we’re excited to see support for Microsoft Active Directory authentication in a Microsoft Exchange resource forest.”

Bidgood makes special note of its Microsoft Exchange 2010 support, which he added, “is something that has been on everyone’s radar since last year, so it’s great to see Research in Motion deliver a solution.”

Some of the new features in version 5.0.1 include support for Open Document Format on BlackBerry devices, as well as support for Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Windows Internet Explorer version 8, and importing Wi-Fi profiles and VPN profiles from a .csv file.

Also this week, Research In Motion unveiled plans to release BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express (blackberry.com/besexpress), a free new server software that wirelessly and securely synchronizes BlackBerry smartphones with Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Windows Small Business Server.
