(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Connectivity solutions provider AboveNet (www.above.net) announced on Thursday that it has connected to Provdotnet (www.prov.net) data centers located in Providence, Rhode Island. AboveNet completed the installation of a diverse 432 strand fiber connection, according to the press release.
AboveNet has made several expansions to its dedicated fiber network as of late, including a recent expansion to i/o New Jersey.
According to the press release, Prov.net now has more than 500 individual strands of fiber coming into their data centers.
“Prov.net is extremely pleased to partner with AboveNet and their high performance telecommunications network,” Ron Sacks, managing partner of Prov.net said in a statement. “The relationship is part of Prov.net’s continuing efforts to provide additional premiere network capabilities to our customers.”
Now, customers who cross-connect or colocate within the facilities will have access to AboveNet’s private optical network and fiber footprint for connectivity to metro markets in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
“AboveNet is uniquely positioned to serve the high bandwidth customers located in the Prov.net data centers,” Rajiv Datta, chief operating officer at AboveNet said in a statement. “Our network is specifically engineered to deliver fast, dedicated, secure connectivity to critical business locations, and we look forward to expanding our network to serve additional enterprise and carrier customers in Rhode Island.”
Prov.net says its customers can benefit from AboveNet’s fiber optic network in the US and Europe, with connections to more than 450 data centers.
AboveNet’s infrastructure includes more than 2.3 million fiber miles and a global Tier 1 IP backbone. It also provides metro Etheret, WDM, Long Haul and IP transit services.
