AboveNet Extends Metro Network to Dallas

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Fiber optic connectivity solution provider AboveNet (www.abovenet.com) has chosen data center operator Telx (www.telx.com) for its new point of presence in Dallas, expanding its metro Ethernet network.

According to AboveNet’s Tuesday announcement, using Telx’s 8435 Stemmons facility allows customers to link to AboveNet’s metro Ethernet network throughout Texas, and will also provide customers with connectivity to AboveNet’s eXpressWave long-haul network, letting customers link to other corporate locations.

“Connectivity choice is a major hallmark on which we’ve built the Telx business,” Telx chief marketing officer Tesh Durvasula said in a statement. “Adding bandwidth and a network PoP from AboveNet into our Dallas facility not only increases the choice customers have in the networks that they can interconnect with, but also the number of different facilities that they can distribute applications, services or content to.”

The AboveNet presence at the Dallas facility provides other Telx colocation customers at the location Ethernet connectivity at speeds of up to 10 Gigabits per second.

John Deering, AboveNet’s director of sales for the Texas region, said that carrier-neutral data centers play a crucial role in IT infrastructure. “By extending our relationship with Telx to its facility in Dallas, we are offering our customers the ability to expand their own networks with high-bandwidth solutions and a wide variety of interconnections that can help drive business opportunities,” Deering said in a statement.

In addition to its disaster recovery application capabilities, the AboveNet node at the 8435 Stemmons facility offers customers a low latency, reliable network that connects locations from the Eastern Seaboard to the Southern US, helping AboveNet’s network provide greater distribution and business continuity options for customers colocated in other regions.

AboveNet’s colocation agreement with Telx is one of many that support AboveNet’s coast-to-coast network. In November, AboveNet struck a colocation deal with data center provider Switch and Data (www.switchanddata.com) to offer a full suite of high-bandwidth Ethernet, IP and fiber data transport services at Switch and Data’s new data center located in North Bergen, New Jersey.
