September 30, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Fiber-optic connectivity solutions provider AboveNet (www.above.net) has invested half-a-million dollars this past quarter on data center connections with its network to provide high-bandwidth interconnectivity to more than 300 data centers.

According to the announcement this week from AboveNet,  its increased connectivity helps the company offer enterprise customers high-speed, low-latency solutions directly to their premises.

“Today’s data center is the next generation central office,” AboveNet President and chief executive officer Bill LaPerch said in a statement. “These centers of e-commerce are a crucial part of the IT infrastructure. It’s where leading edge Finance, Health care and Media companies can get the high-bandwidth solutions they need.”

AboveNet said its Data Center connections use ethernet, wave division multiplexing and internet protocol to deliver gigabit, 2.5-gigabit and 10-gigabit speeds and a suite of complementary solutions.

“This investment is part of our ongoing effort to act as a customer advocate, by taking a Data Center neutral approach when determining where to best connect our customer’s solutions,” said LaPerch.

AboveNet provides fiber-optic solutions for businesses and carriers. Its private, optical network delivers key network and IP services in London and 14 top metropolitan markets in the US.
