(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – High-bandwidth connectivity solutions provider AboveNet (www.abovenet.com) has connected its dedicated fiber network to iomart Hosting’s (www.iomart.com) Tier 3 London data center to deliver mission-critical applications for resident servers, providing fast and secure connections.
One of Europe’s largest providers of data center, managed hosting and business continuity services, iomart Hosting specialises in providing highly secure cloud and server hosting services with redundant power and a round-the-clock staff of onsite engineers. According to its Wednesday announcement, AboveNet will now provide direct, low latency connectivity to and from iomart Hosting’s customers at its City Road facility in the nation’s capital, providing the best possible connectivity.
“Cloud computing services will ultimately only be trusted for mission-critical applications if they are delivered over a highly available, fast, dependable network,” AboveNet UK managing director John Donaldson said in a statement. “That means removing possible points of failure – such as passage through exchanges present in traditional networks – for the reliability today’s businesses need. By making this investment in dedicated fiber connectivity, we are able to deliver a highly scalable, ultra-fast and secure solution to London’s businesses – and are helping make the promises of cloud computing a reality.”
Iomart’s City Road facility is the latest data centers to take full advantage of AboveNet’s dark fiber, IP transit, metro and international Ethernet services, which have been quickly expanding across the top US metro markets and now Europe. The move is part of AboveNet’s investment strategy, speculatively connecting to vital locations to support the growing need for high-bandwidth solutions.
Iomart Hosting marketing director Phil Worms said Iomart is pleased to offer AboveNet’s low-latency fiber-optic services to London customers. “As organizations, such as the demanding new media market and finance sectors, move to the cloud, it is imperative that they do so with total confidence in the abilities of their chosen provider,” Worms said in a statement. “Far greater importance is now placed on the reliability, performance and efficiencies of both the supporting data center and network, which is why we are pleased to be working with AboveNet.”
