June 28, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center space provider AboveNet (abovenet.com) announced on Wednesday that it will be adding fiber connectivity to Equinix’s (equinix.com) newest Internet Business Exchange data center, which is currently under construction near the Chicago O’Hare Airport.
AboveNet decided to add fiber connectivity into the new Equinix center to use its key optical network assets to provide network connectivity to Equinix customers in and around the Chicago metroplex. The new Equinix center addition to AboveNet’s network will provide Equinix customers with an additional private, fiber-based connectivity option, says the company.
The company’s private optical network will be able to support the most advanced or basic disaster recovery plans for the companies that are expected to deploy their critical IT operations to Equinix’s new Internet hub. AboveNet’s offering will also enable companies to decrease their overall network operating costs and provide greater scalability and flexibility for future growth.
AboveNet announced last month it expanded its connectivity presence to 365 Main’s portfolio of data centers, which includes facilities in San Francisco, El Segundo and Oakland, California, Chantilly, Virginia, and Chandler, Arizona.
