(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Utility storage provider 3PAR (www.3par.com) has added two new 3PAR InForm software plug-ins for VMware (www.vmware.com) vSphere and VMware vCenter Server, providing improved online recovery of virtual machines.
According to its Monday announcement, 3PAR’s new 3PAR Recovery Manager for VMware vSphere and the 3PAR Management Plug-In for VMware vCenter Server are available immediately, providing virtual machine-aware snapshots, rapid online recovery, and VM-to-storage mapping. Together, these plug-ins enable both 3PAR and VMware customers to simply, efficiently, and non-disruptively protect, recover, and manage virtual machines and other storage resources in their virtual data center and cloud computing environments.
“Our highly virtualized InServ platform already gives VMware vSphere customers improved efficiency and ROI for their virtual data center and cloud computing environments,” 3PAR president and chief executive officer David Scott said in a statement. “Now 3PAR and VMware have come together to give joint customers a new way to get more out of VMware vSphere with enhanced visibility, VM snapshot capability, and granular, rapid online recovery from within the VMware vCenter Server management console.”
3PAR Recovery Manager for VMware vSphere lets VMware administrators rapidly provision new virtual machines from VM copies, use disk-based storage resources economically, and provide granular recovery by enabling the creation of hundreds of VM-aware, point-in-time snapshots without the use of agents. It also gives administrators automated protection and recovery of Virtual Machine Disks, VMware vStorage Virtual Machine File Systems, individual VMs, and even individual files within VMware vSphere environments.
3PAR Management Plug-In for VMware vCenter Server gives administrators access to powerful management capabilities from within the VMware vCenter Server management console, providing enhanced visibility into storage resources and transparency into how individual VMs are mapped to datastores and individual 3PAR InServ Storage Server volumes. Additionally, quality of service characteristics (such as RAID level, subsystem failure protection level, drive type, and volume type) for individual storage volumes are now displayed within the VMware vCenter Server management console.
VMware alliances vice president Parag Patel said 3PAR Recovery Manager and the 3PAR Management Plug-In give customers a powerful seamless, rapid online recovery solution, all from within the VMware vCenter management console. “By directly integrating 3PAR snapshot creation and rapid online recovery into this console, 3PAR, combined with VMware vSphere, is helping customers simplify their storage requirements as they move toward building private clouds,” Patel stated.
The Management Plug-In is available at no charge to 3PAR customers, and Recovery Manager for VMware vSphere starts at US $3,000 per InServ Storage Server.
