(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center equipment provider 3Com (www.3com.com) announced on Thursday it is becoming an endorser of the EU Code of Conduct on Data Centre.
By endorsing the Code, 3Com will support the code and other participants through the development of products, information, services and education.
The company’s decision to endorse the EU code aligns with its new enterprise H3C networking strategy, which aims to deliver competitive price and performance and a new approach to customer relationships.
The European Commission launched its guidelines and recommendations for data center best practice last November, which could potentially lead to an energy consumption reduction of up to 20 percent among European data centers.
The code was developed over two years by the JRC Institute for Energy, in consultation with its stakeholders which included industry experts, equipment vendors and representatives of both data center owners and operators.
Since its launch, many companies have announced their endorsement of the Code, including Active Power in April.
“It is important for 3Com to endorse an initiative like this,” says Mike Ansley, EMEA VP of 3Com. “We are developing solutions that exactly meet the changing needs of our customers in terms of energy-efficient networking. There is a need for more information across the industry on how vendors can help their customers reduce their network’s energy consumption.”
The strategy comprises of three principles: designing solutions that lower TCO by incorporating the latest in merchant silicon and energy efficiency, as well as a common management platform; architect future-proof products, with solutions based on open standards; and deliver a “new level of customer intimacy” through making responsiveness and flexibility a priority.
In support of this strategy, 3Com recently expanded the H3C portfolio of edge-to-data center solutions with two new switching platforms, the H3C S12500 for end-of-rack in data centers and the H3C S5800 for wiring closets, smaller network cores and top-of-rack in data centers.
All of 3Com’s H3C portfolio of products can be managed by the new H3C Intelligent Management Center, which is a single-panel management platform that lets users integrate traditionally separate management tools.
