July 24, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center provider 365 Main (365main.com) announced on Tuesday it has provided online retailer RedEnvelope (redenvelope.com) with two years of 100 percent uptime at 365 Main’s San Francisco, California facility. It has also reduced RedEnvelope’s overall energy costs by 33 percent during this period.
Since moving to 365 Main in July 2005, RedEnvelope has more than doubled its data center footprint and has increased the number of hits it processes per second from 800 to 1700. RedEnvelope has also closed its redundant data center in the Midwest and moved its excess capacity to 365 Main, tripled its systems capacity and its storage capacity and converted its point-to-point networks to an MPLS backbone.
365 Main is also taking steps to make its own business more efficient by becoming the first data center developer and operator in May to comply with the building certification standards enforced by non-profit organization, US Green Building Council. Earlier this year 365 Main also joined The Green Grid, a global nonprofit consortium of technology companies and professionals focused on energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems.
“RedEnvelope is a high-profile, well respected e-commerce brand and one of the most popular gift-giving sites in the world,” says Chris Dolan, CEO of 365 Main, “It has succeeded in an industry where countless others have failed, and we are extremely proud to have provided it with a home to grow its business.”
