34 Vendors Port Apps to Solaris 10

March 14, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Sun Microsystems (sun.com) announced on Monday that a total of 34 software vendors, including Lenovo, Ulticom, Veraz Networks and VoiceGenie, have agreed to port a variety of telecom applications to the Solaris 10 operating system.

The company says the move will enable the 34 partners to deliver software that improves network operations environments, reduces costs and implements new secure IP-based services.

“With in-kernel support for the Stream Control Transmission Protocol and Session Initiation Protocol, and unique features such as Solaris Containers and Predictive Self-Healing, Solaris 10 is the ideal platform for telecoms applications,” says Tom Goguen, vice president of the operating platforms group at Sun Microsystems. “Today we welcome 34 partners who are building next generation systems.”

Sun says Solaris 10, which supports current IPv6 specifications and APIs and a broad range of SPARC and x86 and x64 processor-based systems, offers significant performance and security benefits.
