(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Offering access to both new domains and the domain reseller marketplace, web host 1&1 Internet (www.1and1.com) has launched a new service for finding already registered domain names up for sale alongside unregistered names, powered by Sedo’s domain name marketplace.

Both subsidiaries of German ISP United Internet (www.unitedinternet.de), Sedo and 1and1 integrated their services to deliver more options to a greater body of domain consumers, according to 1&1′s announcement Monday. 1&1′s “Domain Marketplace” will bring registered domains to a wide range of consumers for sale for a set price or for auction, allowing them to invest in a memorable web address bound to drive traffic to a website or e-commerce venture.

“As the Internet further matures, there has never been a more relevant time to consider leveraging an already registered domain,” 1&1 Internet chief executive officer Oliver Mauss said in a statement. “Businesses often choose their primary domain names in haste at the start of an online project. Businesses today should review all the available domain options periodically and consider the business case for investments in this area.”

Using DomainsBot technology, Sedo finds registered “for-sale” domains and lists them alongside unregistered domain suggestions.

Trading domains in more than 21 languages globally, Sedo is uniquely positioned to provide 1&1 customers over 14 million already registered domains and can deliver a seamless service for purchasing and transferring a user’s new domain name to their web host.

Sedo CEO Tim Schumacher said in a statement, “Sedo is pleased to extend our domain marketplace offers to 1&1 customers. This gives 1&1 customers a greater selection of domains to choose from, and expands the audience of potential buyers for all sellers on Sedo.”

In August, WHIR-TV interviewed Sedo’s business development director Mark Klein about the domain aftermarket landscape.
