123-reg Packs Up Camper Van to Embark on UK Small Business Tour

Domain registrar 123-reg is embarking across the UK in a camper van this summer, stopping along the way to host free events for small businesses. The events will focus on online marketing, social media, networking tips and tips for increasing website conversions.

The first event will be held in Newcastle on Tuesday, July 29, and in the next couple of weeks that follow 123-reg will stop in Leeds, Cardiff, and wrap up in London on August 12.

As a hosting provider that focuses on small businesses, running free, in-person events is something that works well. Several other hosting providers have had success with this model, including Endurance International Group, who recently extended its partnership with Google in its Get Your Business Online campaign in the US.

The timing of 123-reg’s free events also aligns with the launch of the shorter .uk domains, which the company will be promoting during the tour. Nominet launched the shorter .uk domains in June after months of soliciting feedback. Part of the criticism was that the new release could be confusing to existing registrants. This in-person event should address some of that confusion.

“In 2014 it is more important than ever for a small business to have an online presence. We do appreciate that sometimes there can be somewhat of an information overkill which can scare potential business owners away,” group marketing director at Host Europe Group Nick Leech said. “That is why we are bringing our industry experts to businesses, giving them the opportunity to learn new skills and gain first-hand knowledge of both the challenges and opportunities available online.”

“The recently launched .uk domain name will play an important role in this. It will provide greater opportunities for small businesses who want their own online space, which in turn will help to build greater trust in the overall UK economy and help harness a growing digital age.”

Leech will be one of the speakers at the events. Also speaking at the events will be Tim Fuell, 123-reg blog editor and business owners; Stefan Thomas, Network director of 4Networking and author; and Barney Grossman, 123-reg conversion specialist. The events will feature other guest speakers as well.

Business owners are asked to reserve their spot at one of the events by emailing marketing@123-reg.co.uk.

123-reg will be documenting its tour on social media with the hashtag #UKTOUR.
