(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Online domain marketplace Sedo (www.sedo.com) announced on Friday it has achieved record sales for its signature GreatDomains auctions held in November and December.
In February, Sedo's GreatDomains auction drew a six-figure bid for Eggs.com valued at $112,500, while appartment.com, handhelds.com and bobbleheads.com all surpassed bids of $25,000.
The company surpassed the $600,000 mark in sales, selling more than 90 domains. The auctions sold quirky names such as Crab.com for $92,000, Hole.com for $35,000 and Hottube.com for $30,000.
"We're extremely pleased with the results of our recent online auctions, which demonstrate the value and staying power of the domain industry," says Jeremiah Johnston, chief operating officer of Sedo. "Even funny domains, such as hottube.com, a 'hut tub' mistype, are drawing serious money as entrepreneurs and businesses continue to leverage generic names as a creative way to maximize their online presence."
Sedo's Q4 auctions also saw an increase in the number of bidders when compared with previous quarters this year.
The GreatDomains auctions from November and December also saw top selling sales in two-character and numeric domains, including ZP.com fetching $81,000 and 288.com taking in $43,222.
Sedo provides an online marketplace for buying and selling domain names and websites, offering a database of more than 14 million domain names for sale.
The company recently received an A+ rating from not-for-profit, public organization, the Better Business Bureau.
