(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Making an ideal enclosure for harsh environments, server and storage product provider Rackable Systems (www.rackable.com) has added a new line of data center enclosures that offer new levels of data center mobility and feature a light weight plastic case to protect half-depth servers in challenging field deployments.

Able to house a variety of servers with Intel or AMD CPUs, and storage and networking equipment, according to the company's Wednesday announcement, Rackable's new MobiRack enclosures can be used as a fully-contained data center for initial deployments, expansions and data recovery.

A PDF information booklet on the new MobiRack enclosures is available at the Rackable website.

"MobiRack is a self-contained, cabinet-level enclosure that combines servers, storage, networking, UPS and DC power distribution in one unit," Rackable Systems president and chief executive officer Mark Barrenechea said in a statement. "MobiRack truly frees users from the deployment limitations of fixed 'brick and mortar' data centers, and is ideal for fast HPC deployment, a small office data center, mobile trade shows and events, in disaster recovery and military environments."

Complimenting Rackable Systems' existing line of data center enclosures, the ultra-durable MobiRack supports half-depth servers and storage to offer greater density and lighter weight in a mobile solution. It also offers a DC power option to assure operation even in environments with unreliable AC power.

MobiRack enclosures also offer many visual, functional and environmental customization options. MobiRack sizes range from a compact 5U or 11U to a mid-range 14U or 16U, all with an array of options including color, handle design, and air and water-tight capabilities.

The MobiRack is built-to-order, and meets shock and vibration standards, including military and the Air Transportation Authority requirements.According to Jason Waxman, high density computing division general manager at Intel (www.intel.com), often times brick and mortar data centers are not the best option or an option at all.

"Today's computing isn't always deployed in traditional data centers. Many high-growth usage models require new levels of mobility and flexibility," Jason Waxman said in a statement. "Rackable Systems' MobiRack, taking advantage of the energy-efficient performance and reliability of Intel Xeon processors, is designed for time-critical emergency and field computing applications that support next-generation data centers that need to go wherever they're needed."

Last week, Rackable launched its cloud computing optimized C1002 server. A half-depth server, it will fit Rackable's MobiRack, offering remote installations a high-density chassis design that takes advantage of the latest in Intel and AMD processor advancements including the new 45 nm Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor.
