(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Verizon Business (www.verizonbusiness.com) was granted ISO/IEC 20000 certification for its Ashburn, Virginia, Government Network Operations and Security Center, making it the first US telecom to receive this certification, the first international standard specifically for IT service management.
According to Verizon Business' Monday announcement, the company has met the requirements of ISO/IEC 20000, which describes the best practices and management processes for effectively delivering managed services to meet business and customer requirements.
"This distinction is further proof of the Verizon Business Government Network Operations and Security Center's commitment to offering the highest quality of service," Verizon Business global network management vice president Kevin Gahan said in a statement. "Our ISO/IEC 20000 certification gives government customers the confidence that Verizon Business will continue to provide outstanding service and performance."
It also leads to improved quality of service through requirements such as system consistency and interoperability as well as internationally recognized third-party assessments and audits.
Opened in 2006, Verizon Business' state-of-the-art, federal government operations and security center supports the unique security and operational requirements of its federal government customers, performing real-time network traffic monitoring and serving as a single point of contact for both network and security operations. Diverse cable routing and complete redundancy are built into the center's operation to help maintain uninterrupted communications.
The facility also serves as an emergency command and briefing center, and provides offices for program-management and support staff.
Responsible for Verizon Business' federal government division, Susan Zeleniak, Verizon Federal group president, said in a statement, "As the leading telecommunications service provider for the federal government, we've always supported the highest standards of our customers, and ISO/IEC 20000 certification substantiates our ability to deliver the caliber of managed services the federal government requires,"
ISO/IEC 20000 certification is valid for three years with audits performed every six months by a third party. Certification organization UL DQS will perform these audits for Verizon Business.
In 2007, Verizon Business acheived ISO/IEC 27001:2005 information security management system certification for two US managed hosting centers and one in the UK. The company also complies with ISO 9000 guidelines for its IT Service Desk offerings.
While data center operators such as 365 Main (www.365main.com) have ISO 9000 certification, which addresses all working practices in a business, ISO/IEC 20000 specifically concentrates on IT Service Management processes.
