(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Qwest Communications International (www.qwest.com/) announced on Thursday that web-based video marketing and distribution provider The NewsMarket (www.thenewsmarket.com) has expanded its Qwest hosting solution to include customized, secure and redundant managed hosting services.
This is the latest customer announcement for Qwest, following news in March that monitoring and reporting services provider Fat Spaniel Technologies transferred its data center operations to a Qwest Communications CyberCenter.
The NewsMarket operates a web-based platform for video news content that is used by more than 16,000 media outlets in 193 countries to share video content with the media, bloggers, consumers, online communities and other audiences.
The company has been a Qwest Hosting customer since 2002, initially leaseding a few dedicated servers. Today, the company uses Qwest's fully redundant hosting solution.
Qwest says it delivers managed firewalls, redundant switches, redundant Internet feeds, tape backup services, power, cooling and around-the-clock technical support on an on-demand basis from its New York-area CyberCenter.
"For companies like The NewsMarket, Qwest eliminates capital outlay and the complexity of installing and maintaining a secure hosting environment," says Teresa Taylor, executive vice president of Qwest Business Markets Group. "Qwest's network backbone complements our hosting environment because we can provide network uptime guarantees and traffic management to help speed data. Those capabilities, along with our national presence and international relationships, give us the reach to deliver hosting solutions to customers worldwide."
As part of this latest agreement, Qwest centralized The NewsMarket's network operations using Ethernet for bandwidth-intensive activities, including information and video sharing on the company's media site, delivering Internet speeds up to 1Gbps.
Qwest Hosting says it offers a range of services, including customizable Internet solutions, voice, data and hosting, out of its CyberCenter facilities. The company recently opened its 15th data center.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
