Verio Attracts Resellers with Free Month of VPS Hosting: Companies looking to boost revenues are finding Verio's Free VPS promotion the right fit for getting started as Hosting Reseller.

December 2, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Dedicated and managed hosting provider The Planet (www.theplanet.com) announced on Tuesday it is offering an unmetered bandwidth option for its Planet Alpha dedicated customers.

This news follows The Planet's opening of the latest addition to its D6 data center in Dallas last Monday.

According to the company's most recent announcement, with this new bandwidth option, customers can avoid costly overages by paying one flat fee per month for Tier-1 bandwidth.

This seemingly new pricing option appears to be designed for customers who host high-traffic websites, or offer streaming media or gaming content and don't want to have to constantly worry about going over their bandwidth allotment.

This offering seems to be rather timely considering online gaming and streaming video are two furiously growing sectors on the Web, especially noticeable with the boom of gaming phenomena like World of Warcraft and Second Life and numerous video hosting sites and online video networks offering thousands of unique video segments and shows to an increasingly connected and content-hungry populace.

The Planet's unmetered bandwidth option is available in two variations designed to fit specific customer usage requirements. Customers can go for 10Mbps for $200 per month or 100Mbps for $1,800 per month.

"As content-rich sites and streaming media become increasingly prevalent, customers find that bandwidth overages are wreaking havoc on their expenses," says Urvish Vashi, general manager for Planet Alpha dedicated servers. "We've taken the best of both worlds by offering unmetered bandwidth access, which provides far greater predictability and greater economies of scale for our customers."

Although the timing seems right, The Planet actually began offering an unmetered bandwidth option solution provided through Cogent for its customers in June 2007.

According to that announcement, the unmetered bandwidth packages available were the same and prices also began at $200 per month. The biggest difference with this new offering, however, is that The Planet is no longer using Cogent as its bandwidth provider, switching over instead to tier-1 bandwidth.
