Verio Attracts Resellers with Free Month of VPS Hosting: Companies looking to boost revenues are finding Verio's Free VPS promotion the right fit for getting started as Hosting Reseller.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- In a novel way to use its Twitter (www.twitter.com) feed, domain name and web hosting provider NameCheap.com (www.namecheap.com) is giving away $17,000 worth of domain names in its "Twitter Trivia Holiday GiveAway."

According to the company's announcement, from December 1 to December 25, NameCheap will be giving away as many as three domain names, hosting packages or transfers each hour. To win a free domain name, hosting package or domain transfer, Twitter users have to be the first to correctly answer a holiday season trivia question.

As Twitter emerged as a dominant social networking tool, its marketing potential has been the subject of much discussion. Twitter even landed a top-billed round table discussion at HostingCon 2008. And while there is skepticism about its ability to reach the masses, NameCheap is confident enough to invest thousands in an effort to engage current and potential customers.

"NameCheap has always relied on word of mouth for marketing," NameCheap chief executive officer Richard Kirkendall said in a statement. "Rather than launching huge SuperBowl ads, we'd rather use means like Twitter and Facebook to better interact personally with our new and existing clients. We're confident that once people see our user control panel as well as get a free WhoisGuard subscription and SSL with us, they will make NameCheap.com their domain registrar of choice."

Like every domain or transfer at NameCheap.com, winners will also get free WhoisGuard (www.whoisguard.com) for identity protection and a free Comodo (www.comodo.com) PositiveSSL for more secure online transactions. The questions will start off easy and will progressively become more difficult as Christmas approaches. The user who answers the most questions correctly will also win an iPod Nano.

"I didn't hear about NameCheap from an ad. I first heard about them in a web professionals' Google Group," said Michelle Greer, now NameCheap's marketing consultant. "A company like NameCheap who relies on word of mouth marketing is a perfect candidate for social media."
