November 25, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Working under extreme pressure for 48 hours, business-class voice and data services provider Interoute (www.interoute.com) used its Infinera (www.infinera.com) optical network and digital technology to deploy 60 Gigabits per second data connectivity on a 745 mile (1,200 kilometer) route in Europe to help a major customer that had been experiencing quality degradation on its previous optical network.

"Managing to activate 60 Gb/s of bandwidth in less than 48 hours has made us extremely proud and emphasized again the first-rate quality of our network, and especially our Infinera optical network, as well as the total dedication of our people," Interoute chief executive officer Gareth Williams said in a statement.

According to a Tuesday announcement from optical networking system provider Infinera, a large Interoute customer had acquired another telecom operator which already owned a large international optical network that could not deal with the unprecedented daily volume of data and IP traffic. Already operating an Infinera optical network across the same route, the customer asked Interoute to provide 60 Gb/s of connectivity - equivalent to 7.5 million simultaneous mobile phone calls.

With customers already beginning to experience quality issues, Interoute staff set about to meet this customer demands and in two days' time, the full 60 Gb/s of new services were up and running.

The latest among a number of difficult connectivity crises that Interoute has been able to solve successfully for its customers, Williams said the speed of service delivery and the reliability of Interoute's Digital Optical Network has helped Interoute become one of Europe's fastest growing telecom operators.

Infinera CEO Jagdeep Singh said in a statement, "Infinera optical systems offer unprecedented capabilities for speed of service delivery, scalability, quality, and reliability, due to our unique digital architecture based on our breakthrough large-scale photonic integrated circuits. We are delighted to be helping Interoute as it sets new standards for quality and service in the European telecom industry."

Earlier in November, French wholesale bandwidth services provider Covage (www.covage.fr) selected Infinera's digital optical networking system for a nationwide French network, bringing greater competition to the third largest telecom market in Europe.
