Trustwave Expands Global Operations with New Offices in Mexico and Colombia

By David Hamilton, November 24, 2009

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- To help better enable regional support of data security and compliance initiatives with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, on-demand data security and PCI compliance management solutions provider Trustwave (www.trustwave.com) has opened new offices in Mexico City and Bogota, Colombia.

PCI DSS is the payment card industry security requirement for entities that store, process or transmit cardholder data, and has been endorsed by American Express, Discover Network, JCB, MasterCard and Visa. According to Trustwave's Tuesday announcement, the increase in Latin American demand for compliance validation with the PCI DSS necessitated the additional locations.

"For MasterCard, offering top-notch security solutions to our customers and cardholders is of utmost importance. This is why we are pleased that Trustwave is expanding its services to Mexico and Colombia," said Guillermo Maniaux, vice president, Security and Risk Management, MasterCard Mexico and Central America. "Through our partnership with Trustwave our customers benefit from a broad range of proprietary, on-demand compliance solutions and managed security services."

Guillermo Enrique Puerto Avella, Gerente General at financial industry service provider Incocrédito (www.incocredito.com), said it is critical that merchants work with an organization that understands the local culture and can provide technology and solutions that meet their needs as PCI DSS gains momentum in Latin America.

"Trustwave has been our partner for several years and has continued to expand their service offering, in addition to their locations," Avella said in a statement. "We're excited about their Bogota office because they can now serve local businesses that need to secure their network environment and protect sensitive data."

The new offices are Trustwave's latest expansion into the Latin American market. It already has regional headquarters in São Paulo, Brazil, as well as a location in Santiago, Chile. Managing director Jarrett Benavidez continues to head the Latin America/Caribbean region, which serves South America, Central America and the Caribbean.

"We've seen a continued increase in PCI DSS compliance validation activity in this region, which makes it clear that merchants, acquiring banks and service providers understand its importance," said Benavidez. "We now have more resources to devote to businesses with local language support."

Trustwave helps thousands of organizations manage compliance and secure their network infrastructure, data communications and critical information assets, from Fortune 500 businesses to small and medium-sized retailers worldwide. Earlier this month, Trustwave opened a new compliance call center in Warsaw, Poland to provide PCI Data Security Standard compliance support for customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
