November 21, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Data center operator DataSite (www.datasiteorlando.com) announced on Friday it has invested $26 million in renovating its 130,000 square-foot DataSite Orlando data center to transform it into an ecologically-friendly data center.
Last month, DataSite Orlando facilty offered a public tour for the first time during AFCOM's industry tradeshow Data Center World Expo, held at Orlando's World Center Marriott.
In the press release, DataSite has organized the information by simply highlighting, in point form, the numbers involved in the statistics and facts of phase one of the facility's renovations. First, 32,000 pounds of old wire and cabling have been removed from the facility to be sent away for recycling.
The company will replace the recycable materials of its current electrical motor in one of the four massive chillers used in the water cooling system. The other three chillers will be replaced with energy-efficient models.
Tenants will save 35 percentage in energy costs by using DataSite Orlando's water cooling system. New insulation in the roof raises the resistance to heat transfer to an R: 21 coefficient level.
DataSite Orlando's new thermoplastic roof membrane will save $160,000 and remove 176,000 pounds of carbon emissions from the environment over a 20-year period. Additionally, 87 percentage of solar energy will be deflected by the new roof.
The data center operator has replaced 1,000 standard light fixtures with energy-efficient fixtures.
The data center has either implemented or plans to implement other measures, including an Ethernet phone system that can be scheduled to power down, capturing rainwater for liquid cooling, ducted returns to remove warm air before it mixes with cold air, and participating in an energy-efficiency program offered by Progress Energy.
DataSite Orlando has nearly completed phase one of the renovations, and will continue to implement additional measures.
"Businesses today are looking to collocation facilities as a solution to costly in-house data centers," says Jeff Burges, founder of Burges Property Company, owner of DataSite Orlando. "We're investing in this facility to ensure it reaches the optimum performance the industry and businesses are demanding today in order to remain competitive and meet future business needs."
Owned by BURGES Property + Company, DataSite Orlando serves Central Florida's high technology industry with a secure world-class facility.
