(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Managed web hosting services provider HostDime (www.hostdime.com) has added new hosting packages for Windows 2008 servers that feature the new Enkompass Windows hosting control panel, which provides a similar look and feel to cPanel's (www.cpanel.net) existing Linux hosting control panel, making it easier for customers to migrate to the new platform.
HostDime is one of its largest volume licensing customers, HostDime has been working closely with hosting control panel developer cPanel to develop features and functionality customers can use in a Windows hosting environment. The new interface looks almost identical to the Linux version of cPanel, letting customers familiar with cPanel start using the Enkompass Windows hosting control panel quickly.
"cPanel has been working on this release for over 3+ years and we are proud to be the first managed web hosting company to launch Windows 2008 hosting plans with Enkompass and welcome new customers to host with us," HostDime chief executive officer Manny Vivar said in a statement. "We are always looking for ways to offer innovative tools and technologies to our customers. New and existing customers will appreciate our attention to implementing the latest technologies to help them succeed online."
cPanel's new control panel Enkompass is designed specifically for Windows server 2008 and it uses Microsoft IIS7. Enkompass Windows hosting control panel lets customers run multiple technologies such as ASP, .NET, PHP, PERL, FLASH, MSSQL, and Silverlight on the same box, freeing them from having to run separate boxes to support all their technologies and programming languages.
"Customers will be able to utilize more programming languages than previously offered – all through the new Enkompass control panel," Vivar added. "Web developers want the ability to utilize all programming languages on one hosting platform that supports all the latest technologies. HostDime offers that support with our new Enkompass Windows web hosting services."
HostDime is offering free cPanel Enkompass trial accounts until January 1, 2010. HostDime encourages new and existing customers to sign up to experience the latest in Windows hosting control panel software and test the various programming languages supported by Windows 2008.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
