SSA Host Adds Semi-Dedicated Plans

By Justin Lee, November 19, 2008

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider SSA Host (www.ssahost.com) announced on Wednesday it has added semi-dedicated servers (www.ssahost.com/details/semided) to its product line, offering a bridge hosting solution between traditional virtual hosting and dedicated servers.

Semi-dedicated hosting is an emerging trend seen in recent years where web hosts offer a step-up from virtual private servers by imposing a strict limit on the total number of users per server while maximizing system resource allotments per user.

The web host is able to offer a high-end virtual private server hosting solution that is comparable to a dedicated server, without the increased costs.

The past year has seen semi-dedicated plan announcements from web hosts AllureHost, ReliableSite, and AptHost.

SSA Host's semi-dedicated plan offers dual core, dual processors, RAID 10 data storage configurations and the Virtuozzo virtualization technology.

Available in two configurations, the new semi-dedicated plan starts at $109.99 per month for 50GB of disk space, 500GB of monthly data transfer and hardware with guaranteed 768MB of RAM, which is burstable to 2560MB of RAM.

Customers can choose between data centers in Los Angeles and Dallas.

"Semi-dedicated hosting introduces an attractive alternative for clients who might normally seek a low-end dedicated server or high-end VPS," says Kristopher Jordy, owner of SSA Host parent company Sirkels & Squares Alternative. "With our semi-dedicated plans, we're targeting clients who don't need to modify their Linux kernel but do want the relative security of a private hosting environment. Beyond the cost-savings of a semi-dedicated server, the technology also reduces our carbon footprint by further maximizing the resource utilization of each piece of hardware. It's 'green' technology, and it's good business."

In addition to semi-dedicated servers, SSA Host provides domain registration, SSL certificates, VPS, dedicated servers, hosted Exchange, server monitoring, Linux-based shared hosting and reseller hosting.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
