Compuware Integrates Vanage, Gomez Monitoring Products

By Liam Eagle, November 13, 2009

Application performance solutions provider Compuware (www.compuware.com), which announced earlier this week that it had completed its $295 million acquisition of performance monitoring company Gomez (www.gomez.com), announced later in the week that it had begun integrating its Vantage application performance management solution with Gomez’s solutions.

The company says the combined solution, now available to customers of both companies, is the first solution to “power visibility across the entire application delivery chain – from internal systems behind the firewall to the Web browsers of users.”

Through a combined dashboard, IT organizations will be able to access a unified view of application performance data from both Vantage and Gomez solutions. Customers using Gomez to manage applications delivered over the Internet, for instance, will be able to move from a Gomez alert into Vantage data to analyze internal systems for the root cause of the performance issue. IT teams using Vantage will similarly be able to access Gomez web performance data through Vantage dashboards.

“We are committed to delivering high-value integrations between Vantage and Gomez, and this first deliverable is proof of that promise,” says Mark Hillman, vice president, strategy and product line management at Compuware. “By moving quickly with our integration, we are able to provide immediate value to our customers, within days of the acquisition close. This is a very important first step in creating integrated solutions that dramatically improve the way organizations manage application performance across the Enterprise and the Internet.”

Users of both products will immediately be able to access the features of the other for no additional charge, says the company.

More information on the integration of the products and companies – including a downloadable PDF - is available from the Gomez website, which is already branding Gomez as “the Web performance division of Compuware.”

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
