(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Completing its program of acquisition-driven growth in the US Hosting Market, British web hosting provider and registrar UK2 Group (www.uk2group.com) has acquired Utah-based WestHost (www.westhost.com) which currently hosts more than 70,000 web sites, according to the announcement.
The company announced Friday that according to the deal, UK2 Group will retain all key personnel and continue to operate WestHost's data center in Salt Lake City and its offices in Logan, Utah.
The UK2 Group began its program of growth-by-acquisition in the US market in December 2007 by acquiring midPhase (www.midphase.com). WestHost's acquisition, the final one of the program, follows those of web hosts Stargate (www.stargate.com) and WingSix (www.wingsix.com). The company said it will now turn its focus to optimizing all its hosting operations and strengthening its overall market position.
"I've followed WestHost for years, and I have always been impressed with their quality of service, respect for their clients and great offerings" UK2 Group managing director and chief executive officer Ditlev Bredahl said in a statement. "I want to assure all WestHost clients that they are not going to see any changes in that kind of personal service. We're keeping the data center in Utah open, because a local presence is important, and we're keeping the excellent staff there"
UK2 Group family of companies includes US2.net, midPhase, 10TB.com, Resell.biz, WingSix, AN Hosting, Autica, Supreme Support, and flagship member UK2.net, which has operated for more than a decade. UK2.net has sold more than one million domain names and currently hosts hundreds of thousands of Web domains. Moving beyond its US strategy, the UK2 Group has also recently acquired Australian reseller-oriented web host Dotable (www.dotable.com).
As part of Westhost's transition to the UK2 Group, the company said it has put together a core team of UK2Group and WestHost management to personally reply to all questions and concerns from WestHost clients.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.

I have been receiving emails from unknown accounts. i did some research and it looks like UK2 is the owner of these hosts. I am trying o find out if they are legitimate or not, before I respond to them. In the email there is a reference to royalstyle.org, and the addresses come from emails that are from spedos.at and soulman.co.uk. It looks like they might be job information sites, but I am a little concerned about responding. I read that you have purchased some US hosts and wondered if you could give me any information on this. I might be interested in internet work, I have good references and good communication skills. I am not in a position of taking chances, though, because of the economy and my financial situation. If you would be able to give me any information on this, I would be most appreciative. Good luck on you US acquisitions, and thank you for taking the time to look into this for me. You can reach me at charlenep2@verizon.net. Charlene Pipito
