(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web host Easyspace (www.easyspace.com) added an extensive library of easy-to-install, Software-as-a-Service applications for its virtual private server customers.
According to its Wednesday announcement, customers will have access to a multitude of SaaS applications that address the main areas of business from inventory management and HR through to collaboration and e-commerce, all installable via the Parallels Plesk Panel Power Pack add-on to the control panel from cloud technologies provider Parallels (www.parallels.com). Some of the most well known applications included as part of the Power Pack are Joomla, Wordpress, Magento Ecommerce, Php Bulletin Board, Php Money and Drupal.
"Over 150 SaaS applications are now available to customers through this latest addition to our Virtual Server range, with each application being a potential opportunity for business improvement," Easyspace managing director Errol Vanderhorst said in a statement. "At just £4.95 per month, this proves fantastic value for money. Users can easily install robust online stores, chat and blogging software, finance management tools, project management tools and more at a fraction of the cost of doing each individually through other channels" comments .
SaaS applications are growing ever more popular with consumers and businesses alike and the inclusion of such a wide range of apps directly via hosting providers has only proven to increase SaaS awareness, usage and popularity.
"In an age where buzz words such as SaaS and cloud computing are becoming ever more common, it's important to make sure potential users have access to tools classified as such," Vanderhorst said. "We already offer a cloud hosting solution via our virtual server packages and the addition of SaaS applications only serves to further bolsters their position amongst the most competitive servers currently available on the market."
Parallels' control panel underwent a new transformation this week with the official launch of Parallels Small Business Panel 10 and the Parallels Partner Marketplace, which provides web hosts a commercial marketplace for turnkey small business solutions that can be easily purchased and installed through an easy-to-use storefront.

This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
