1&1 Releases Competitive Windows 2000 Server

March 24, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — European Web hosting company 1&1 Internet (OneAndOne.co.uk) announced on Monday that it plans to release a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SAK (server appliance kit) package in mid-April, adding a competitively-priced new addition to 1&1′s existing range of hosting services.

According to 1&1, the key is the server appliance kit, which provides optimized support for administration and configuration of the Windows 2000 operating system, creating a powerful and flexible server that can be operated from anywhere in the world using the “remote desktop” terminal service.

Pre-installed Microsoft SharePoint Team Services, says 1&1, further enhances remote functioning, allowing administrators to create a Web site to serve as a central repository of project information. Windows Server 2000 SAK can be used to set up domains, databases and game servers. And, as ASP.NET applications are supported, customers will be able to program interactive Internet applications using Active Server Pages. The implementation includes Microsoft IIS 5.0 pre-installed, along with support for FrontPage 2002.
