1&1 Offers Win Server 2008 Support

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK web hosting provider 1&1 Internet (www.1and1.co.uk) announced on Tuesday that it is now offering Microsoft Windows Web Server 2008 with its dedicated Windows servers.

With the launch of Windows Server 2008 this past February, several web hosting providers immediately began offering support for the operating system, including Attenda, CrystalTech, SoftLayer, Go Daddy, Hostway, Rackspace, InetU and Verizon.

1&1 now joins these web hosts by equipping all its dedicated hosting accounts with Windows Server 2008.

Based on Internet Information Services 7, the platform includes many improved administration tools such as the graphical IIS manager.

The web host is offering three Windows Server 2008 versions, including SQL Microsoft Express Edition 2008, Parallels Plesk Control Panel 8.6. and ‘minimal installation.’

The Windows Server Advanced Hosting package is pre-installed on all versions, which includes a package manager that enables users to install comprehensive applications.

Users can also select from some 50 free programs like e-shop software osCommerce, DotNetNuke and content management systems Drupal and Joomla.

1&1 Windows Servers are available in five versions. The entry model is 1&1 Business I, priced at 79.99 per month plus VAT, features a Dual-Core AMD Opteron 1216 Processor, RAID 1, two 250GB hard drives and 2GB of RAM.

The flagship model, 1&1 Enterprise Server III, includes Quad-Core AMD Opteron 2352 Processors, RAID 5, three 750GB hard drives and 16GB of RAM, for $259.99 per month plus VAT.
