October 24, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Most of this week's sales and promotion news revolved around hosting providers offering discounts on certain products or packages, including MochaHost, Media3 Technologies, SupaNames and Infrenion, as well as new launches of various services like SingleHop's $99 Atom server, LetsHost's Irish hosting plan, The Planet's newest storage offering as well as AIT's "no limits" hosting.

MochaHost Offers Halloween Sale

In light of the Halloween season, web hosting provider MochaHost (www.mochahost.com) announced on Friday it is offering 20 percent off on all hosting packages on October 31. The promotion is only available until midnight central time.

The company says this promotion is available in addition to the current Fall sale, which includes six months of free hosting and two free domain names for Business and Mocha shared hosting plans.

SingleHop Offers $99 Atom Server

On Friday, managed dedicated hosting provider SingleHop (www.singlehop.com) announced the deployment of what it considers "the industry's most power efficient server," The Atom, at $99 a month. The Atom 330 clocks in at 1.6 GHz, 1 MB of cache, 64-bit processing and is based on Intel's dual-core technology.

Zak Boca, president of SingleHop says it is one of the "first companies in the world to offer this great server," as compared to the dedicated industry server standard Pentium 4, and adds that his company will "continue to invest in this type of innovative technology" for customers.

LetsHost Launches Irish Hosting Plan

Ireland-based hosting provider LetsHost (www.letshost.ie) also announced on Friday the launch of its new "Irish Hosting Package" to its suite of services.

The new package includes 12 GB storage, multiple daily backups with free telephone and around-the-clock email support. Prices start at 3.95 euros per month and are tailored towards businesses of all sizes, says the company. LetsHost is also offering .ie domain names for 19.99 euros a month.

Media3 Offers Anniversary Promo

Web hosting provider Media3 Technologies (www.media3.net) launched on Thursday a promotional deal on its hosting packages in light of its 14th year in the business.

The company says it is offering free web hosting with free setup on all shared accounts for a three-month period, seemingly with the goal of attracting a new set of customers. The only requirement, says Media3, is the domain name associated with the account has to be registered or transferred and resolved to a Media3 assigned IP number within 14 days. Existing customers can also take advantage of this promotion, as long as it's for a new domain name.

The Planet Unveils Storage Offering

On Wednesday, dedicated managed hosting provider The Planet (www.theplanet.com) launched direct attached storage, a new offering for dedicated and managed hosting customers who require enhanced database performance and increased file storage capacity.

Based on Dell's MD series, the product is available in three configurations that can be used as primary storage or for backup and archiving. The Dell MD1000, priced at $300 per month and equipped with up to 15 drives, can be used for server expansion. The more robust MD3000 provides low-cost clustering and dual storage controllers for redundancy and failover and is available for $500 per month. There is also a dual-controller/dual-port configuration of the MD3000 for $650 per month.

SupaNames Slashes VPS Prices

UK-based web hosting provider SupaNames (www.supanames.co.uk) also announced on Wednesday it is offering its virtual private servers at a discounted price.

According to the company's most recent announcement, customers can sign up for a VPS for £22.49, providing savings of up to £134.97 per year. Available on Linux and Windows, SupaNames VPSs include a free domain name as well as unlimited bandwidth, integrated control panels and daily backups. Linux-based VPSs are Ruby and Ruby-on-Rails ready and run on Ubuntu 6.06, while Windows servers are equipped with SQL Server 2005 and ASP.net 2.0 running on 64 bit Windows 2003 Server.

Infrenion Discounts Dedicated Plans

Web hosting provider Infrenion (www.infrenion.com) announced on Wednesday it has reduced the prices of all its Linux and Windows dedicated server plans to help increase its dedicated client base while "offering greater profits."

The company says all servers are SuperMicro machines with premium 2TB bandwidth and begin at $114 per month. They come with free setup, cPanel/WHM with Fantastico and RVskin or Plesk, free IP addresses, remote backups and around-the-clock support.

AIT Offers No Limits Hosting

Earlier this week, web hosting provider AIT (www.ait.com) announced a "no limits hosting" promotion starting at $4.77 per month. The company says for a limited time, all of its new hosting plans will allow unlimited domains to be served regardless of price to help its resellers grow without restriction. AIT says it also hopes to see its business class accounts "experimenting as resellers."
