October 30, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Las Vegas-based Web host McKremie Web Hosting Solutions (www.mckremie.com) has launched a hosting program offers all US-based registered 501(c)(3) non profit organizations and public schools free Web hosting services.

According to its Thursday announcement, McKremie's Nonprofit and Public School Web Hosting Program is available to all US-based organizations, not just those located in Las Vegas. A Web hosting plan McKremie offers non-profits and public schools includes features like 3 TB transfer, 15 GB disk space, unlimited MySQL databases and unlimited sub-domains, normally worth $263.40.

"We are pleased to give back to the organizations and schools that are the backbone to our society," McKremie president Stuart McHenry said in a statement. "To us, there is nothing more rewarding than contributing to these worthy causes."

McKremie said it started offering web hosting services out of frustration with its former Web hosting company's frequent downtime and terrible customer support. In response, McKremie boasts US-based and 24-7 customer support, and secure servers located in Michigan.

McKremie is joing other Web hosts that offer free charity hosting, including Welsh managed service provider eLINIA, (www.elinia.com) which, in April, launched a new offering that provides a free Web hosting service for charities. While it had previously offered free hosting service to charities including The Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust (www.millenniumstadiumtrust.co.uk). The company began formalizing the service with a standardized package, which is also carbon-neutral. However, it initially only offered its service to local charities in Wales with plans to extend it to all of the UK later this year.

While many hosts may want to offer a similar service, verifying that organizations are legitimate charities may be a barrier for many hosts in places other than the US and UK, where charities are registered and regulated.

Web hosting provider Verio (www.verio.com) took a different route in July when it built 18 Ann Arbor, Michigan charity web sites and agreed to host them until January 2010, as part of the weekend-long Ann Arbor Give Camp (www.annarborgivecamp.org) at Washtenaw Community College in which software developers, designers and database administrators donated their skills and time to create custom software for non-profit organizations.
